This is one set menu, per person. So, yes. All menus are for solo travelers. No choices. Now 3200Y. English menu and explanation available. One of the oldest restaurants in Japan on the grounds Nanzen-ji, a thousand-year-old temple.
Lunch is only a hot meal set meal. It is 3000 yen
I can not say in a nutshell, but I think that it is less than 2 o'clock if it is unexpected for the spring and fall sightseeing season.
Basically, there is no private room.
Because it is small, it stops near timely
You need a Japanese speaker to make the reservations. It can be done, but reserve well in advance.
Unsure if the other reviewers even visited the same restaurant. Suburb tofu, fantastic service and beautiful location. I'd eat here again.
I think that it is a store where you can relax without being unpretentious, even among the tofu-ya of Nanzenji. The room is clean and the shop is polite and calm. You can enjoy smooth tofu, tofu, sesame tofu, and wild Dalaku, and it's a little unique here that the grated soup comes out. When you ask for hot sake, you will get a liquor called Golden Gourd, which the shopkeeper chose as a sake that goes well with yudofu. I visited several Tofu-ya restaurants this winter, but it was only here that I was recommended as a sake that goes well with Tofu. I'm disturbing right after opening at 11:00, so I've never had a wait, but even if it's a little later, the menu is one and the customer's rotation is fast, so I can not wait until that time It won't.
It’s an amazing experience having vegetarian food in Kyoto(精進料理). You have no choice but enjoy a set of tofu. The pure taste of soybean come with first bite after several seconds, a good making way that makes soybeans transformed to tofu didn’t destroyed the original flavor, and the deep taste come up with your bites as it gets longer. I am not the vegetarian person, but the food did make your mind peace, and enjoy the original taste of the food. My highly recommendation to come.
Different dishes made from tofu, won't fill your stomach but is a good experience to enjoy traditional Japanese food. The space and waitresses are in Japanese traditional style
Wonderful tofu experience! I recommend everyone to try it at least once to get a sense of this traditional Kyoto food culture that has existed for many centuries.
Lunch only 3000 yen course. It's the same for everyone, so the delivery time is early and the Chinese customer sitting next to us. It was cool that she could speak in Chinese
Some people just don't get this restaurant. In ancient classic Japanese style, Okutan has been serving Tofu set lunches (no dinners) for centuries on the grounds of the 1000 year old Nanzen-ji temple. It is the oldest tofu riyori in Kyoto. The original restaurant was established almost four hundred years ago within the walls of the Nazen-ji temple, and the current proprietor, Yasuie Ishii, is the fifteenth generation of his family to preside there. The single set has 10 courses, all tofu. All made on premises.
The boiled tofu set was a delight! Flavorful and authentic. A bit expensive, but definitely worth it for the experience of delicious Japanese vegetarian food.
One of my best restaurants in Japan. The food is original (vegetarian Buddhist cuisine) but also very good. Excellent atmosphere, calm, in a very beautiful setting. I cannot recommend it enough! And for only ¥ 3,000 (€ 25 from March 2020) :)
The Tofu were Great and also the Reception Girl was friendly but the waitress was very rude and racist !!! She didn't even smile for us and didn't explain the menu that written all in japanese!! So disappointed with the service mind. In contrast she was smile only to Japanese people!! It was the most terrible experience for a tourist !!
The reputation of this restaurant depends on what you want to eat in Kyoto.First of all, the customer service is polite and the shop has a taste. Kyoto-like atmosphere is also attractive. However, it's not as good as surprised. When you make tofu at home, it's not as good as you'll want to imitate, or if you can't imitate it, it's as good as a white flag. It doesn't really feel the soy taste, but it's normal. It is a frank evaluation that there is nothing above and below the price with service + cooking. The atmosphere is good, so I think it is a good shop for those who want an atmosphere.
Special cuisine based on tofuLight tasteThe price is slightly more expensiveBut it is still worth visiting for tourists.
It is right next to Nanzenji and is just right for lunch in the middle of sightseeing. The price is also conscientious.
Fantastic traditional tofu set meal. Choose either hot or cold tofu. Delicate shiso leaf tempura is a work of art.
Tourist trap! Ok tofu (fresh), but nothing exceptional (didn't even serve the 3 basic condiments they mention in their marketing materials, plus the salad definitely was packaged Italian dressing!*%!) & WAY overpriced. Staff felt like they're trying to get you in/out as quickly as possible (odd since the restaurant wasn't anywhere near capacity). Only being generous on giving 2 stars so you know I'm not just a cranky reviewer. There are so many amazing places in Kyoto, don't waste your money/time here.
Easy to live their food.Every kind of way to taste tofu is a good experience.
Delicious tofu set for ¥3000. Setting was beautiful.
No queue and very few customers on a weekday in September. We picked this place because it is said to be the original shop for 'boiled tofu' cuisine and it received some good comments on website. However, we were disappointed. There are only two menu choices and both are set courses, one with boiled tofu and the other with cold tofu as main dish, we ordered both. The quantity was sufficient as they offered rice and the tofu of the main dish was quite abundant. Quality of the side dishes were good but portion too tiny. The main dish (both boiled and cold tofu) were disappointing, both texture and favor were not good. To be honest, there are even better quality tofu sold at supermarkets. Ambiance is not impressive, we dined at a normal traditional Japanese tatami dining hall. Not sure if they have private rooms with better view. The price is not cheap, around JPY4,000 per set which is quite high for tofu. CP value is low and most important quality if not good. I won't recommend it.
The old miso soup of tofu is delicious. One type of menu is a busy shop where there is no choice and automation, eating and leaving.Hospitality is polite.
Yudofu shop in Nanzenji precincts. This store is the oldest in Japan. There is no menu, only one way. (There is a drink)Why don't you try eating yudofu slowly in a calm atmosphere?
The food has only one full course. Expensive. Overall taste is not desirable.
On a trip to Kyoto in Hisabisa, to get various information from local acquaintances ♪“I want to eat yudofu! "If you request, this is recommended and brought me.If you ask after lunch time, wait about 20 minutes in a row.It was very cold on this day, and it was glaring while waiting 〰️When guided, a course will be prepared to flow. There is only one course, a set of hojicha, sesame tofu, yudofu, grilled salmon, tempura, rice, and incense. There is no liquor. It was cold and I wanted to warm up with hot water ~
I was able to spend a relaxing time because it wasn't crowded yet because I had you stop by before noon ✨✨Appetizers until yudofu are ...The appetizer is sesame tofu, miso-denraku, tempura and crisp, and it is not recommended for those who want to get full, but it is highly recommended for those who want to relax slowly.I had it with sake so it was very good and delicious. ️It was nice to have a pleasant customer service with the shop staff who were quite excited キ
Last year I went with my mother (in-law). ✨ by reservation. The telephone response was also very polite and of course the food was delicious. The timing of the food coming out was really good. There was a taste, such as the construction of the building, and my wife, I spent 17 years relaxing with my mother. This time, 子 供 ️ children are planning to go together (* ≧ ∀ ≦ *).
Good tofu food
Only one menu, tofu with templa, rice etc. 3000 yen. It would be very nice to feel Japanese style at the famous traditional place in Kyoto. Perfect for Kyoto. vegetarian. Accounting is cash only. A popular restaurant that is said to be the birthplace of hot water tofu in Nanzenji. Even if it is sold out if you do not go early. The alleys are also nice with a Kyoto-like atmosphere. The menu is only one kind, "Yudofu one way". A set of hot tofu, sesame tofu, taro juice, wood sprouts of trees, shojin tempura, rice, and pickles. It may be a bit expensive, but I am convinced by the atmosphere and the many dishes. The clerk carefully explained the dishes one by one and explained to foreigners in fluent English.
About 10 people are passed through the shop all together at the shop's policy. There is only one kind of lunch. As soon as you sit down, cooking will be carried.Seasoned less than amateur if it is said that it is delicious.Yu tofu is the soup of kelp in water, and the taste of tofu is also normal.Tempura was not finally baked and seemed to be fried by a beginner. If you let it line up, I'd like you to write such as "I will show you every few people so please wait for a while ...".I was waiting because I thought that there was no choice because it was crowded, but when I entered it was full of vacant seats.I understand that it is a shortage of workers, but it is better for me to manage education for store clerks.
Lovely place. They only serve one set menu for a fixed price, with mainly tofu dishes but also other things like vegetable tempura. They explain everything in English. Delicious!
Great experience. Very traditional restaurant with tatami seating at low tables (no chairs). Tofu set course was excellent, but a bit expensive (3200 yen pp). Friendly and helpful staff. Overlooks a nice garden, which contributes to the atmosphere of the place.
I heard that it was a popular tofu restaurant. As I was in the GW, I went to the store at the same time as I was busy, but I was able to taste the food freely, because it was open unexpectedly. The menu is only "Yudofu-ichi-dori", and it was a tax of 3000 yen for a set of sesame tofu, wood sprouts of a tree, hot water, steaming tempura, torori soup, rice, and pickles. All were delicious with a gentle flavor. It was a shop that I wanted to visit again.
One of the most famous tofu restaurants in Kyoto for savoring the purity of the veggies and beans.
Not to mention tofu with solid taste of tofu, Tempura, Dagaku etc ...... Every dish was delicious with a gentle taste. The price was also conscientious.I will ask again.
Tofu lunch set with tea for 3240¥ includes: sesame tofu, grilled tofu skewers, Yudofu, tempura veggies, grated yam soup, rice and pickles. Really delicious!! Even if you think "tofu bleh" you should give it a try! We loved it and would return given the chance. The Yudofu was one of our top dishes in Japan.
Eat the atmosphere and the scenery, maybe good! But if you eat food.....10 soup tofu, it is really tender! A piece of sesame tofu, soft and sticky, not love! Yam mud with rice... I have added tofu with seven flavors! A few small vegetables tempura (very small amount) has only one set meal! The above content!Maybe I am not enough literati! (slip~)
It was delicious. Those who are not good at sitting in the tatami room will rent a seat. The meal menu is only a set of yudofu. 3,300 yen, payment is cash only.
